money.itWe're writing a personal finance feature on cash left idle in a current account and the interest people missed by not moving it. We want specific, first-hand numbers and the story behind them. We're looking for: personal finance advisors, financial planners, savings and banking analysts, accountants who work with households, budgeting coaches, or journalists who cover personal finance, who can share their own case or a client's (anonymized).
Please include in your answer:
- your country, and the amount that sat idle and for how long
- the rate your current account paid, and the rate you could have had at the time on a savings account, term deposit or government bond
- the interest you missed, in your currency, and how you calculated it
- what made you realize it, and what had held you back (inertia, fear, not knowing the options)
- what you do today: where your emergency fund sits and how much of it you keep in the current account
- the rule you adopted for money that does not need to be touched
What we don't want: pitches from banks, brokers, robo advisors, savings apps or crypto platforms, investment or product recommendations, company treasury cases, and answers with no amounts.
