Miroslav Lajčák

Miroslav Lajčák’s diplomatic career is defined by his involvement in some of the most consequential moments in recent European history. As the EU’s representative tasked with organising Montenegro’s independence referendum in 2006 – including designing the specific rules that would govern its outcome – he helped deliver one of the few peaceful and orderly separations in the post-Yugoslav space, an achievement he regards as the defining moment of his professional life.
